Self Help Disability Group for the support of Leukodystrophy sufferers and their families. No government funding. Run by a group of 10 volunteer committee members. Originally set up 19 years ago by Sr Julie Thomas OAM who has a leukodystrophy. Support is provided through free telephone (1800 no.) or personal counselling; direct financial assistance for a wide range of expenses related to chronic illness and disability such as medication, home renovation, medical aids and equipment, household bills, travel expenses for medical appointments; organisation of biannual seminar with eminent professional guest speakers and emphasis on increasing the knowledge and expertise of local health professionals and sufferers alike; website with relevent links; newsletter; fund raising activities; Family Advocate employed to assist and advise families in many areas; biannual Strategic Planning Day
