Black Cockatoo Rehabilitation Centre

Description

We are actively involved in the preservation of Western Australia’s iconic Black Cockatoos including the critically endangered Carnabys White Tail. These birds are now classified as Rare and likely to become extinct.

Kaarakin is the largest community driven wildlife conservation project in Australia. We are also incorporated as ‘Wildlife Australia’ which is a collective of several , varied groups highly invested in wildlife rehabilitation. We have volunteers looking after our rescued Dingos, Kangaroos, Wallaby’s, Emus, and any other rescued wildlife including seized reptiles.

We have also recently (5th May 2011) become incorporated as The Australian Threatened Species Centre Inc. Our goals as such, include becoming an internationally recognised environmental conservation organisation. To this end we will be expanding the centre into Banywola regional park with a predator proof fence around it. This will make us one of the largest metropolitan wildlife and Biodiversity conservation sanctuary in Australia with a multitude of social and community benefits.

Volunteers love to work here and we encourage a variety of people to visit and volunteer here.
Besides, our main focus of wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and release, there are direct environmental benefits from land care activities. We have 40 acres of degraded Jarrah forest being actively rehabilitated and living streams to be constructed.
A measurable amount of community involvement from
• Individuals (Corporate and private)
• Federal Government
• State Government (DEC, Department of Corrective Services)
• Local Government
• Schools
• Disabled and disadvantaged groups
• Overseas Volunteers
• Conservation Groups
• Pensioners

This is the only way our not for profit organisation can operate and does so very successfully. We are justifiably proud of our centre and the way it engages all sections of the community to fulfill its roles.
