Dandenong Ranges Emergency Relief Service
Description
What we do:DRERS helps people facing financial crisis. The team at DRERS aims to provide each person that walks through the door an opportunity to discuss their problems in a confidential and non-judgemental setting.
Depending on the situation and funds available the organisation can provide emergency aid such as met cards, payment of small essential bills, repairs/replacement of household goods, clothing and food vouchers and the payment of prescriptions. DRERS also offers support, a listening ear, a range of options, advocacy and referrals to appropriate external sources.
Every month, approximately 40 to 60 children and 100 adults are assisted through the emergency relief program.
Our History:
DRERS started in 1998 from a backyard freezer. It was founded by people who profess faith in Christ, reflecting their belief that God loves every person deeply, and that we also (as a community) should take care of each other. Through assisting people disadvantaged due to illness, disability and poverty DRERS aims to create a stronger, healthier and more caring community.
Organisation structure:
DRERS is an incorporated body under the Incorporated Associations Act 1981. The association operates using the Model Rules of Incorporation. As a non-profit organisation DRERS, has Public Benefit Institution Status, is tax exempt by the Australian Taxation Office and is registered for GST. DRERS holds deductible-gift-recipient status, and all donations over $2 are tax deductible.
A volunteer Committee of Management (COM) is elected from members of the association and is responsible for ensuring DRERS fulfils its purpose. A part-time manager is employed to ensure that the organisation fulfils its aims at an operational level in safe, effective and appropriate manner. The remainder of the DRERS team is made up of volunteers.
