Disability Justice Advocacy Inc
Description
Disability Justice Advocacy is run for people who have a physical disability with high support needs. We have provided advocacy to people with a disability in Victoria and the Melbourne metro area since 1990.We receive funding from the Commonwealth Department of Family and Community Services. Advocacy support is provided by three experienced Advocates and the Executive Officer.
We work towards justice and inclusion for people with disability. We focus on the fundamental needs, rights and interests of people with a disability. We are independant from Human Services and free of conflicts of interest. We provide advocacy for as long as is needed and remain accountable to the person we are supporting.
We provide advocacy to people who have high support needs because of their physical or multiple disabilitiy. We provide personal support, from one-off advice to on-going support, sometimes over many years. DJA has worked successfully with many people experiencing major difficulties.
We understand people who have a communication impairment and have a lot of experience in advocacy for people with severe disabilities. Most importantly we take the time to listen and to work out the major issues of concern. We always check back and make sure that things are actually getting better.
Our loyalty is always to the person with a disability, but we are careful in what we do. We make sure that we are doing the right thing by the perosn and work with families and carers. we do not rush in but listen, understand and only then take the action. We provide support on a wide range of major welfare and justice issues. Priority is given to safety, shelter, health and other major needs.
While our support is provided directly to the person in need, we also work with involved family members and carers.
