Flat Out lnc.

Description

Flat Out Inc. was established in 1988 and is an innovative & dynamic state wide advocacy & support service for women who have had contact with the criminal justice and/or prison system.

Flat Out receives government funding through the Department of Human Services, the Department of Health and Ageing & occasional project funds from various sources, to enhance its capacity to provide innovative & effective services & advocacy.

Flat Out Inc. is a community based organisation that is anti hierarchical; in keeping with its feminist philosophy & principles.

The Flat Out Management Collective embraces fairness & equality through the essential roles of governance, management & leadership that are underpinned by a comprehensive set of policies, procedures & delegated authority.

Flat Out leads & participates in research & community education, seeking to inform the community & other service providers about the issues that occur for women in the prison system. Flat Out advocates for women who have experienced incarceration, and works towards improving the rights & conditions of women in prison. Flat Out works towards preventing women from going to prison, and keeping them out of prison once they are released.

Through community involvement & education, advocacy & research, Flat Out maintains a strong voice in the prison abolition movement in Australia, in the hope that eventually prisons will not be seen as a legitimate arm of the justice system, but will be viewed as an antiquated, cruel & ultimately ineffective institution.
