The Sydney Community Foundation is a public, philanthropic foundation which combines the independence and community connectedness of a charity with a long term investment focus on building stronger social capital.

The Sydney Community Foundation is the only one of its kind in greater Sydney and was developed in 2004 as a direct response to the emerging need for a more community based approach to philanthropy. We are a not for profit and public foundation specifically created for the people of Sydney, by the people of Sydney.

We bring people and organisations together to create a perpetual source of funds and a body of knowledge about community issues and needs. These funds and this knowledge are then used for the ongoing good of the community. We offer a simple, flexible and effective way for individuals, families, companies, government agencies, local councils and other charitable trusts – a community of donors – to support the city they love and make a lasting difference to the life of the people in their community.

We gather donors and donations and then invest back into marginalized communities improving their capacity and underwriting their best initiatives. We connect donors with innovative community initiatives and engage them in the process. By working closely with our donors we ensure their gifts achieve their charitable goals and meet immediate community needs. We simplify grant giving by providing foundation administration, donor advice, bequest management, research on issues facing Sydney and updates on grant activities.
