VACCA was first established in 1976 to ensure the involvement of Aboriginal people in matters relating to Aboriginal child and family services. VACCA is a statewide Aboriginal community controlled and operated service. VACCA was given the responsibility by our community to promote, advocate and achieve positive changes in the lives of Aboriginal children, young people, their families and their community premised on human rights, self determination, cultural respect and safety.VACCA believes that Aboriginal families who are strong in their community Connectedness and culture will be more successful in raising resilient Children and young people who are proud of who they are and where they come from.
The last five years have seen the organisation expand in size and scope. VACCA negotiated and signed Protocols with the State Government relating to Aboriginal children in care. We have formalised partnership agreements with key community sector organisations in Victoria to improve service delivery and sharing training and skills development. Our internal organisational development has been strengthened to keep pace with the growth in size of the organisation.
