WestHeidelberg Community Legal Centre

Description

WHCLS Mission
To ensure access to justice for all persons in our community and provide holistic services in collaboration with relevant organisations.

WHCLS currently provides services and activities within the City of Banyule with a focus on those individuals and groups with the least access to justice. The broader advocacy work of the service has the potential to impact on communities throughout Victoria.
Objectives

1. To empower and support individuals in the community to access the law and legal system through the provision of information, advice and casework services in order to protect and advance the individual’s rights.
2. To empower and support community members by improving knowledge and understanding of the legal system through community development and law reform work.

3. To participate in partnerships which promote development of client services and improve client outcomes through effective lobbying and advocacy.

4. To provide the opportunity for students at La Trobe University to enhance their practical legal skills and their understanding of social justice through participation in a clinical legal education program.

5. To ensure WHCLS is effective, efficient, adaptable and sustainable.
