Website Maintenance making a difference in Australia, Africa and the Pacific

Carbon Community is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to tackling climate change and reducing poverty. They fund and facilitate reforestation projects in Australia and innovative solar lamp projects in Africa and the Pacific to reduce CO2 emissions and simultaneously reduce chronic economic, health and education poverty. “We face all the challenges of a start-up company, as well as facilitating micro credit and distribution arrangements in other countries. One of my challenges is to ensure that our volunteer and systems can keep up with the planned growth this year!” says Andrew Flint, Director of Carbon Community.

Andrew submitted a project brief for a volunteer with excellent website management skills to help support staff, board members and other volunteer ambassadors and project managers making an impact in Australia and in Africa and the Pacific at Carbon Community. Matilde Ejlertsen applied for this project in October 2009 and has been working with Carbon Community ever since, donating approximately $1,500 worth of skills per month. Matilde has learnt all the coding requirements for their website, liaises with their website host resolving technical issues around content, images and the online shop as well as maintaining the supporter database functionality and assisting with the production and distribution of e-newsletters.

“The website is a key communication tool. People tell us that the website is much improved now, and that gives them confidence to encourage others to get to know CCF. As you can imagine, Matilde is a key person at Carbon Community!” says Andrew.

“goodcompany’s approach is not bureaucratic. Also there is an expectation that a quality request is to be met with a quality applicant. I have found that goodcompany keeps in contact, and is interested in how we are going – I appreciate that!” Andrew Flint, Carbon Community.
