Brain Injury Australia

Brain Injury Australia is the peak acquired brain injury (ABI) advocacy body representing the needs of people with an ABI, their families and carers. Acquired brain injury refers to any damage to the brain that occurs after birth. That damage can be caused by an accident or trauma, by a stroke, a brain infection, a disease or by alcohol and other drugs. Over 500,000 Australians have an ABI.

Falls are not only the leading cause of injury hospitalisations in Australia but also the leading cause of brain injury the result of an accident or trauma - called traumatic brain injury. And of all causes of traumatic brain injury, falls are the most fatal. The primary reason for this is our ageing population. In spite of this, brain injury doesn't get the recognition it deserves in falls prevention programs or when older Australians go to hospital.

Having just 1.5 staff members themselves, Brain Injury Australia placed a volunteer project with goodcompany for a graphic designer who could create some compelling imagery and words to get its message across during 2010's Brain Injury Awareness Week, August 16-22. Kevin Bathman's two concepts are clear and simple, yet dramatic. They will doubtless draw the public's attention to the Brain Injury Australia's awareness-raising efforts.
