Getting Started
Getting Started as a Volunteer
(nb: If you are a community group, read our Getting Started section for groups).
If you are a professional looking to volunter, the first thing to do is find a volunteer project that suits your skills and availability.
-
Using the Volunteer Project Search box (bottom left of page) choose the skill category and/or location that you're interested in.
-
Then simply browse through the list of volunteer projects that match that criteria. When you find a volunteer project that interests you, click on it for more information.
-
You can also click through on the community groups name to get more detailed information about what they do. We suggest that you do some research on the community group to find out if you would like to volunteer with them.
-
If you think the volunteer project is a good match, you can apply online (you must be a registered goodcompany volunteer) where you'll also be able to send a personal message to the group.
-
Once they receive your volunteer project application, they'll review some of your basic details and your message. If they're then keen to get started, they'll respond via automated email with the group's contact details and you're in business.
-
From there it's up to you to get directly in touch to arrange the first meeting. The first meeting is a good chance for you to find out more about the project and set the project milestones.
-
Whilst the volunteer project is in progress, you can request assistance from goodcompany through the My Volunteer Project Account section.
Hopefully you'll have a terrific experience and deliver an extremely valuable outcome - details which you can also report back to us.
