Tips for fulfilling a volunteer project

After you apply for a volunteer project, what happens next?

  • When you apply for a volunteer project, it is reserved for you and taken off the website so we recommend you only apply for one volunteer project at a time (unless you have lots of time to volunteer!) as the chances of the group wanting to meet you and discuss the project further are very high.

  • Once the community group receives and accepts your application, you will be sent an automated email from goodcompany. You can login and view their contact details.

  • It's up to you to get directly in touch with the group to arrange the first meeting. This meeting is a good chance for you to find out more about the project and set the project milestones.

Some tips to help you start fulfilling the volunteer project:

  • Arrange a time to meet with the group either in person or over the telephone and discuss the volunteer project in more detail to get a better understanding of what’s involved.

  • For starters we would recommend you discuss and agree on:

    • Clear objectives, timeframe & the deliverables

    • Mutual obligations

    • Level of support and involvement the group can offer

  • Once you meet and agree to fulfill the volunteer project, there is an understanding that you will do your best to complete the volunteer project. If your circumstances change and you are unable to fulfill the volunteer project, please let the group know ASAP.

  • An unsuccessful/incomplete volunteer project costs the community group valuable time and resources.

Good luck and happy volunteer project searching!
