Glen McKernan - Property Specialist
Glen McKernan is the Head of Property Management (Office and Industrial) at Charter Hall in Sydney. His work responsibilities include managing the internal Property Management team to ensure that their properties are well maintained with good tenant relationships and that clients are happy with their services.
What inspired you to get involved in skilled volunteering?
I realised that so much of my time was devoted to purely work and family and that I was not giving a lot back to the community.
Which organizations have you assisted?
I have been working with the Multicultural Advocacy Association of NSW and Bikes for Humanity to find new premises in Sydney and my colleagues in Melbourne have been assisting Parkinson Victoria, Crisis Centre and the Stride Foundation with leased premises advice.
What did the community group gain from your involvement?
In all cases, the outcomes have been that the organisation has received some professional property advice which has allowed them to make decisions with factual data. In some cases it is using my existing industry contacts to refer another party who may also assist, eg. a fit out contractor or leasing agent to provide advice or services.
What did you get out of volunteering your time and skills?
A sense that I have used my professional skills to help others in need and to gain an insight into the great work that these organisations are involved with. It just puts things into perspective that there is a lot going on in the world.
