Could you mentor a migrant? (Environmental Engineer - female)

Description

Many migrants come to Australia with qualifications, skills, experience and good English, but a lack of Australian workplace experience can be a barrier to employment.

The AMES Mentor Program matches these migrants with Mentors from similar professions or industries, to support them as they pursue their careers in Australia.

Mentors provide support depending on individual need, offering assistance which may include;

• Assistance with job applications and preparing for interviews.
• Helping to understand Australian workplace culture.
• Advice about job search and career development in your field in the local market.
• Continuing support after starting a new job, helping to settle-in and do well.
• Encouragement and empowerment.

Mentors are asked to contribute about one hour per week for six months to support their Mentee. Location and time are flexible. A training session is provided to clarify the role, followed by ongoing support from the Mentor Coordinator.

The AMES Mentor Program is part of the larger AMES Volunteer Program which engages some 1900 volunteers across Victoria who help newly arrived migrants and refugees learn English and settle into the community.

AMES is presently calling for volunteers who;
