Edmund Rice Camps

Description

Edmund Rice Camps is a not for profit organisation that runs holidays camps and activity days for disadvantaged children and families. For 28 years Edmund Rice Camps have provided excursion based camps in places like the Mornington Penninsula, Otway Ranges, Melbourne and Malmsbury. The camps are run by volunteers aged between 17 and 30 years old with a 1:1 ratio of participant to volunteer. All participants are refferred from social welfare organisations across Melbourne, Geelong, Ballarat and Gippsland. Specfically the camps cater for 8-11 year old boys and girls, 12 – 15 year old boys and families. Individual camps for Indigenous children and Refugee Children are also conducted. The camp is utilised as an opportunity for time out from an often difficult life of violence, homelessness, family breakdown, Mental Illness, limited access to social/recreational activities and generally low happiness levels. An Edmund Rice Camp offers these children and families an opportunity of fun and positive interaction with young role models, while building a sense of hope and rejuvenation for the future.

Edmund Rice Camps Inc offers approximately 10 camps each year for some of Victoria’s most disadvantaged children and families. The camps are staffed by an enthusiastic and talented group of young adult volunteers who are committed to the principles of social justice and the tradition of Edmund Rice, the founder of the Christian Bothers.
