Friends of Claude Ho in Thyolo Association
Description
In Malawi there are many non-government organizations providing medical treatment for people infected with HIV/Aids, but little action taken to address their social and emotional problems. In 2000, photographer Claude Ho was sent to Malawi by Medecins Sans Frontieres to cover the plight of orphaned children in the Thyolo District. During his visit, he was struck by the lack of social support for the young and old who were infected or affected by the pandemic, and decided, with the help of two friends there, to found Fochta. They are Dr. Leopold Buhendwa and Mr. Steven Labana, both working with Medecins Sans Frontieres.
From the outset, all three decided that the best way forward was to promote education, so that young people might have a future and the chance to escape from the poverty cycle.
Our Mission Statement pledges that we should:
* Give social support to people living with HIV/Aids.
* Endeavour to improve the quality of life of those who are destitute.
* Support orphans and other young vulnerable groups by providing school bursaries, and by caring for them in every way we can.
