Jessie Street National Womens Library
Description
Jessie Street National Women's library is a specialist library, collecting material about women and women's issues. It is self-funding and dependent largely on membership subscriptions, donations and fundraising events to meet its running expenses. It is staffed by volunteers, many of whom are professional librarians, who willingly give personal attention to users and their needs. The archivist is the only employee, and works part-timeAn annually elected Board consisting of up to 13 members, meets once a month, administers the Library's finances, issues a quarterly newsletter and organises fundraising events
. To collect the published and unpublished materials that document the lives and experience of women of all ethnic, racial and religious backgrounds and of all socio-economic classes.
. To ensure that documents relating to Australian women's lives and activities are preserved and made accessible.
. To highlight the contribution of Australian women to this country's development.
