Jewish Museum of AustraliaDescription
The Jewish Museum is a community Museum that aims to share the Jewish experience in Australia and benefit Australia's diverse society. It is also an art gallery and regularly features works from Australian Jewish artists.Our volunteers reflect a range of people in the community: Jewish and non-Jewish, but all work together to gain personal satisfaction from assisting a medium sized museum maintain their artefacts. In turn they all help us to educate the community about part of Melbourne’s great diverse ethnic make-up. Being a not-for-profit organisation, we rely heavily on our volunteers to help support our aims. You will be joining a great and well-established volunteer program that has been running since the museum’s inception in 1983.
We need an experienced retail or small-business mentor to advise us on how to ‘modernise’ our shop, in particular how to:
- update our till;
- record sales;
- manage EFTPOS procedures;
- streamline procedures; and
- utilise a fantastic team of volunteer shop assistants.
Our small museum shop is manned by volunteers. The shop has two roles: to collect admission fees and also to sell some Judaica, as well as items relating to the museum’s exhibits, such as books and souvenirs. Despite being small, the shop’s funds add significantly to the museum’s income.
