In October, 1971, a public meeting held at the Lilydale Shire offices called for a committee to investigate the establishing of a Day Training Centre for people with an intellectual disability, to service the shires of Lillydale, Healesville and Upper Yarra. The organisation became known as Melba Centre. In 1996 Melba Centre changed its name to Melba Support Services.
Melba Support Services purpose is to assist people with a disability lead everyday lives. It specialises in the provision of supported accommodation, continuing education and supported employment services to adults with an intellectual disability combined with physical disabilities.
