The Principal object of TASDA is to provide Disadvantaged Students with access to Computer Equipment in the home (which the household could not otherwise afford) to develop their computer literacy skills (and byu doing so to enhance their educational, social and cultural development). The Computer for Every Child Project achieves exactly this -
Access at a young age to computer and internet technology has become a critical requirement for every child to fulfil their true potential. Developed economies, such as Australia’s, are increasingly becoming knowledge-based economies in which information in all its forms plays a crucial role in economic processes, including growth and job creation. Particular groups of people in Australian society are at high risk of poverty. These groups have limited or no access to computers or the internet. Having no access creates a “digital divide” between children that have access and those that do not. This in turn places additional barriers to their ability to improve their lives.
The Computer For Every Child’s (CFEC) mission is to target exactly that “digital divide” - those children, and their families, that have no access to either computer or internet technology. CFEC will provide eligible children with a computer for use in their home. The package will include software, internet connection and access to a Help Desk. Basic computer training will be provided to the student and a family member.
CFEC will make a major difference to the future of the children in our society who most need it. We will empower them to compete in our modern economy equipped with the computer and internet literacy they will require to succeed.
CFEC expects to roll out across the rest of Victoria and then Australia. Our vision is to supply computers to tens of thousands of children across Australia. It will make a major difference to the future of the children in our society who most need it. We will empower them to compete in our modern economy equipped with the computer and internet literacy they will require to succeed.
