Goodwork: Founder & CEO, Karma Currency

Ashley Rosshandler

Our organisation: Karma Currency introduced Australia’s first 100% tax deductible Charity Gift Voucher which can give the recipient the pleasure of saving a life, rescuing a child, protecting a forest, educating a mind, or countless other worthwhile deeds.

My responsibilities: Primarily, to make giving easier. If we can make it more rewarding and engaging, even better. We focus on finding ways to increase donations whilst reducing fundraising and admin costs for our 100 plus charity partners.

Our team: Two full-time employees.

Our greatest challenges: Building awareness that our Charity Gift Vouchers are the most innovative, eco-friendly, and socially responsible way to reward and engage with staff and stakeholders. We also want to make it known that our charitable gift registry is now the largest in the Southern Hemisphere.

How we manage skilled volunteers: We find that there are two types and 'manage’ them accordingly. The “need a change” ones may be book keepers or accountants who crunch numbers every day and are looking for something different when they volunteer. It might be planting trees, stuffing envelopes, or answering phones. They like doing anything that doesn’t resemble their day to day work. The “make a change” ones are keen to use their skills and strengths for the greater good, like the SQL server guru who works for major multinationals but loves helping us with our IT needs.
