Guide to Volunteering

Once you are a registered goodcompany Community Group, you need to attend an induction workshop where you’ll receive full training and guidance on goodcompany volunteering and getting the most out of your goodcompany experience.

Our induction and training workshop every 6 weeks (previously registered groups wanting a goodcompany refresher are also welcome!). Please contact goodcompany General Manager Belinda Morrissey for details of upcoming training workshops.

The most successful community groups get these two things right:

  • Identifying and articulating quality wishes. Ask the people around your organisation what help they need. Remember to focus on professional or business services (identifying skill gaps) and then ensure that you are as specific as possible with your wish. Asking for “fundraising help” won’t get a response. Volunteers need to be able to understand what’s involved, the skills required, the likely time commitment expected and the desired outcome.
  • Managing the goodcompany volunteer experience. Treating the relationship as a professional business relationship helps ensure successful outcomes. The wish needs to be clearly scoped and once you meet with the volunteer, you can jointly identify the objectives, timeline, resource/support and deliverables.

The goodcompany website allows you to manage and track the entire goodcompany process; from submitting your wishes, handling wish responses and tracking their progress, to reporting and concluding wishes.

All of these functions are available by logging in to the site and clicking on My Wish Account.

You’ll find even more detailed information on how to use us, including our Community Group Training Manual, under the Help section (the help section can be found in the header of this website).
