- Have you provided the volunteer with a clear and concise request for their help?
- Have you selected the most appropriate skill category?
- Have you provided an indication of the time commitment required to complete the task?
Some goodcompany Tips:
Tip 1. Don't ask for money, ask for skills and expertise!
Fundraising is a very important and challenging task for all charities. But, goodcompany is a new way of looking at fundraising - it works because it is focuses on delivering you pro bono professional services - which save you money, find you skills you might not otherwise be able to access, and build the capacity of your organisation to achieve its objectives.
So instead of asking for money or fundraising assistance, ask for professional skills and expertise. It’s simple, easy, and has high impact.
Tip 2. Have you included enough specific details about the project?
The more specific that you make your wish, the more chance you will have of success. 66% of our volunteers said the factor that most influences whether they will respond to a wish are a ‘skills/interest match’.
So, try and include specific information about the work that is involved in the project (asking for general “marketing help” implies a broad scope and may deter rather than attract volunteers), the skills required, and even the personal attributes you’re looking for.
Tip 3. Is your wish for a short term project?
Groups have more success finding a volunteer when they submit wish for short term project rather than requesting ongoing assistance. Most of our volunteers work full time and are interested in volunteering their skills for specific period of time. After the wish is fulfilled, you may be able to develop an ongoing relationship with that volunteer.
Tip 4. Describe the difference it will make to your organisation
Our volunteers choose to be a join goodcompany so that they can give back to the community. If you describe the difference that this wish will make to your organisation (great or small) this is a huge incentive for volunteers. For example, if you can demonstrate that the wish is an important part of your organisation’s efforts to address youth homelessness, it will have a greater impact on the volunteer.
Tip 5. Submit a wish at anytime
