$85 000 in 30 minutes
On 14 March nearly 100 volunteers and community groups joined together at stylish Sydney venue the Establishment. Their purpose? To share past experiences and meet like-minded people who could offer them new ones, at the latest goodcompany 'Find your Perfect Match' event.
Five of the community groups that goodcompany works with were invited to address an audience of existing and potential volunteers, 'sell' their organisation and attract new recruits. Host Warren Lee kept proceedings moving at a brisk pace and each representative impressed the crowd with their short, sharp, emotive sales pitch.
Once the formalities were over, the community groups were inundated with impressed, inspired attendees wanting to learn more and do something to help. Guests mingled, sipped wine and beer and placed their name stickers on top of the wishes displayed. One wish was covered with stickers within ten minutes of the presentation ending!
The evening was a thorough success and by the end of the night, goodcompany volunteers had offered $85 000 worth of their skills to the community groups.
It was Robert Goldrick from Spinal Cord Injuries first goodcompany event, and certainly won’t be his last:
"My colleagues and I were genuinely impressed with the concept, the organisation of the event and with the enthusiasm, energy and input of the volunteers," he said, "We have already reconnected with some potential volunteers, and look forward to developing further relationships with others who we spoke to on the night".
The Quest for Life Foundation has been involved with goodcompany for many years and Kate vanderVoort, Business Development Manager was one of the speakers at the event:
"We received overwhelming feedback and support from volunteers on the night". The Foundation has greatly benefited from goodcompany volunteers in the past and feels that skilled volunteers "help us to build our capacity and level of service in ways that we could never do".
