A Refreshing Change for Finance Wizz
One of the beneficiaries of the July 2006 ‘Find Your Perfect Match’ event was Task Force Community Agency, who desperately needed a ‘financial coach’ to help them balance the books.
Edward McFall attended Find Your Perfect Match in July. He has a finance background and has mostly worked for large corporations. Edward put his hand up to volunteer as ‘financial coach’ and work with Taskforce’s management team to help them develop skills, knowledge and understanding of financial systems.
So what was involved? "After the initial meeting the brief grew a little, encompassing assistance with new processes and procedures and designing more user-friendly financial reports" Edward said. "There was a fair amount of behind the scenes work, but the main focus of the wish was delivering finance training to various members of the organisation. It was a very good experience."
He ended up working with Taskforce for around 3 months to increase their financial knowledge and capacity. "From a volunteers' perspective it was beneficial to work with an organisation not in the for-profit/corporate sector. It's refreshing to meet people who are actually working at doing something really worthwhile". Edward said.
Karenza Louis-Smith, CEO Taskforce commented "It is hard to place a dollar figure on this work but I can simply sum up the impact by saying these are wishes that we could never have afforded to purchase from the corporate sector".
