Volunteer gives new life line to many with spastic paraplegia
A rare disease impacting people's ability to move, known as HSP, can isolate those affected. But a goodcompany volunteer has opened the door to more community interaction by building a website for the HSP Research Foundation.
Run entirely by volunteers, the organisation’s new website had become a new life line for many, according to HSP spokesman Steven Lunn.
"Having a well-designed, well-functioning website is an enormous boost to the Foundation – an absolutely vital and central part of its activities," he said.
"HSP is a rare disease, and as one that affects people's mobility, face-to-face opportunities are few and far between. The website is the hub of the community and its' lifeblood."
Goodcompany volunteer Isaac Nakhla, whose time has been valued at about $10,000 said IT was crucial the website could be maintained easily by someone without programming knowledge.
"HSP were motivated from the start and committed in making the site to work out. They knew exactly what they wanted from the start which helped a lot. Regular communication was the key to the success, and there where no unexpected delays in making this wish come true."
