Volunteer saves depressioNet time and money
depressioNet is an innovative non-profit organisation that provides a 24/7 service of information, help and peer support for Australians touched by depression. depressioNet's difference lies in its unique interactive web based framework which offers 24/7 peer to peer support as well as comprehensive information and professional resources.
Scott Evans worked in IT support and development for a number of years. He decided to become involved with goodcompany to help others and to extend his own business and communication skills.
depressioNet initially needed assistance developing their online database and search function for healthcare professionals and people living with depression in Australia. When Scott started volunteering with depressioNet, they immediately recognised what an asset he would be to their IT team and he was ‘poached’ to assist with a new website project which was running behind schedule.
Scott developed the business requirements, managed the project plan, mitigated risks and conducted a Post Implementation Review. He even sourced additional volunteer IT expertise to assist with the project (Jonathan Wallan, Amri Sannang and an experienced Project Manager - Colin Store) and engaged a new IT support person (Afework Getachew)
depressioNet resources coordinator Jo Bidwell said that, "without Scott it is unlikely that we would have completed the project on time and on budget....Scott has been an invaluable resource for us – in fact he is indispensable! He is extremely patient and dependable with a great network."
Scott thoroughly enjoyed his work with at depressioNet, "They are really passionate about what they do and are always open to new ideas and suggestions."
His favourite part about professional volunteering is meeting new people and imparting professional knowledge. He also admits that doing something like this after hours, "certainly makes his day job alot more enjoyable".
