History & Purpose

History

The concept of goodcompany was created by Kate Kennedy, a young socially minded professional who believed that people offering their skills for free to community groups would be more beneficial than raising their hand at a charity auction.

A Melbourne pilot in 1999 confirmed that there was a large pool of highly skilled, time poor professionals who were interested in ‘giving something back’ to the community, they just didn’t know how. Similarly, there was a significant demand from the community sector for pro bono services that would save them money, build their capacity and better achieve their objectives.

After further research and concept development, and a generous seed-funding grant from the Pratt Foundation, goodcompany was officially up and running in 2001.

Since then we have attracted thousands of volunteers, hundreds of community groups, and facilitated more than $7 million worth of pro bono services to the community.

We now run programs in Melbourne and Sydney (since 2003) and are eagerly making plans for expansion to other capital cities.
