Centre For Hope

Centre for Hope was established in 2011 to work with disadvantaged, at risk young people.

Due to community need, our age range has been expanded to work with 6 to 18 year olds.

Our model for working with young people is a dual coaching/mentoring model, with coaches helping them see possibilities beyond their current limiting circumstances, and mentors helping them to take steps toward their goals.

We have grown from working with around 12 students in a single school, to working with around 1,000 young people in 20 schools and community settings.

We have established a Drop In Centre as a safe zone for young people to hang out, a Homework Centre servicing 4 schools, 3 Bike Sheds where young people learn the skills to do up a bike and then have the option of either keeping it, gifting it or selling it.

We run a variety of workshops to engage the young people, including painting, graffiti, skateboards.

All of our activities are aimed at building the young people's self esteem and positive community engagement.

Our Drop In Centre is affectionately called "The Drop" a safe, positive and fun communal space that disadvantaged children in our community can visit five days a week after school from 3pm to 6pm.

The centre provides them with healthy food such as fruit smoothies, vegetables and dips, toasties and communal barbeques. We have an indoor basketball hoop, table tennis, couches and television and most importantly Centre For Hope coaches and mentors who are there to engage, talk, support and be there for the children who need to have a safe and positive environment and solid role models in their lives.

In this space we also offer a variety of music, art and film projects for the children to develop new skills, learn how to work in a creative team and have some fun. We are also looking at creating Sunday family film and food nights.

This is such a beneficial service in our community and it  has had an incredible impact on these young children's lives.....your donataion will be a big investment in their future and we truly value your support.

Steps to Success - Senior School Coaching and Mentoring Program $10
Steps to Success - Senior School Coaching and Mentoring Program
Steps to Success - Senior School Coaching and Mentoring Program

Thank you for your $10 donation that will help support a young person in this school mentoring program.

The program is typically 12 months in duration.

In the first and second terms we dedicate 1 to 1.5 hour sessions with a coach and mentor on alternate weeks. After this, in the third and fourth terms: the young person works fortnightly with the mentor. This approach enables the young person to link strongly to the community and ensure that their progress is solid and supported.

Examples of outcomes include:

Establishing links between program participantsand the community

  • Increased school attendance

  • Increased support for families

  • Improvement in grades

  • Increased comfort for the young person in their school or social settings.

Large or small achievements can make a major difference to youth at risk. An example of one of our many success stories is:

One young person felt so passionate about playing the didgeridoo and had such a talent that he put together a teaching program for others to learn how to make their own didgeridoo and play it.

These programs inspire and build hope and then in turn, it creates a ripple effect on the whole community.

This is a unique program that has an incredible impact on these young children's lives.....your donataion will be a big investment in their future and we truly value your support.

Mitji Ngwali - A Coaching and Mentoring Program

Meaning "Little Waves" we work with 6 to 12 year olds to build and create an inspired life for disadvantaged children in our community

through schools.

The program has been designed around the concept of Mitji Ngwali (coaching) and mentoring. The power of these approaches, working in tandem, offers a unique experience for participants where they are supported and encouraged to find their strengths and weaknesses, and move beyond the limitations set by themselves and others.

When the young person is truly centered on the things that matter to them, and these things are linked to their schooling and day-to-day living, great changes are possible. Where required, the Centre for Hope will offer practical support through education for the parents or carers of these young people.

Thank you for your $15 dollar contribution, this will support a child in this school mentoring program
