Foodbank Australia

On any given day, more than half a million households in Australia are battling to
meet their food needs and the rising cost of living is the single biggest reason
why. Heartbreakingly, households with children are 1.5 times more likely to be struggling and single parent households are the hardest hit of all. More than 2 million households in Australia went hungry in the last 12 months, which means they actually ran out of food because of financial limitations, sometimes skipping meals or going whole days without eating. There are people who are being affected in every neighbourhood, city and country alike, and over half of food insecure households in Australia had someone in paid work.

Foodbank Australia works with 2,950 frontline charities and 2,890 schools to
bring food and groceries to Australians who are struggling. Foodbank currently feeds over 1 million people each month.

We work with the entire food and grocery industry to source key staple items so
that Foodbank warehouses will always have them in stock. That way, we’ll be
able to provide nutritious and convenient food such as cereal, milk, tinned
vegetables, pasta, pasta sauce, meal bases and meat for as long as people need
it. We also support emergency services, providing essential supplies to people
during natural disasters such as bushfires, floods and cyclones. Every $1
enables Foodbank to distribute 2 meals to Australians in need.

Through food rescue operations, Foodbank also helps tackle Australia’s $36 billion food waste problem by reducing CO2 emissions arising from landfill.

Despite Foodbank’s scale, hunger is worsening and charities report that they don’t have enough food and groceries to assist those in need. With your help, we strive to do more for everyday Australians who need a hand.
