Board Member - Treasurer

We are looking for a new Treasurer for our food security organisation.

12 month commitment requested – approximately 3-4 hours per month

Cultivating Community runs Public Housing Community Gardens, School Food Gardens and a range of food sustainability programs; with a focus on low income people; growing your own food, reducing food waste and recycling organic waste.

Our work is important and topical, as more and more leaders recognise the need to reduce the impact of food production, distribution and waste management on the planet and as we become increasingly aware that many Australians do not have access to sufficient affordable, healthy food.

Our revenue base is shrinking and, as a result of this, we have recently reviewed all our operations. This led to the Board adopting a back to basics strategy, which meant letting go of some activities and projects. We recognise a need to develop a new direction if we are to survive. This means that the role of Treasurer is particularly crucial at the moment.

This role is one for someone who enjoys a challenge. We recognise the need for major change and a new financial strategy and see the Treasurer as key to this.  We are seeking a 12 month commitment initially. Board meetings are held monthly on Wednesday evenings for 2 hours.

The Treasurer will need to devote additional time each month to reviewing and endorsing financial reports and may occasionally be called upon to provide advice to the CEO and Finance Officer relating to financial systems development.

Your contribution will contribute significantly to the future of this organisation.
