Volunteer Tutor

Help provide education support to a young person in our Mudjin Byala program.  
Mudjin Byala is designed to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who are transitioning from primary to secondary school or struggling to stay in school. 

As a volunteer tutor you will be required to undertake the following:
• Assist with supporting reading and writing skills.
• Support and supervise young people participating in educational programs
• Provide one-on-one tutoring tailored to the individual young person’s learning ability.
• Support the young person with their homework
• Involve young person in their educational progress through obtaining and incorporating their feedback
• Reinforce the importance of education through conversation and role-modelling.
• Model appropriate study & problem solving skills
• Use effective active listening, communication and negotiation skills to build rapport and to de-escalate emotional and/or challenging situations which may arise.
• Refer any identified needs of the young person to the Caseworker

* A minimum commitment of 6 months is required * Volunteer will need to be available to tutor in Hebersham one day per week from 2.00pm-3.00pm. * We are flexible to which day of the week the tutoring session will occur.
