Closing the Health Gap for Indigenous Australians
$ 50.00
The life expectancy of Indigenous Australians is 10 years shorter than non-Indigenous Australians.  Chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart and kidney disease are major contributors to this reduced longevity. Preventative strategies are urgently needed to improve the health and well being of Indigenous people.

Some examples of the reality of life for many of our Indigenous people: Indigenous people experience more than 10 x the prevalence of diabetes in the 20 to 50 age group and develop end stage kidney disease at up to 30 times the rate of non-Indigenous people.

Your gift will help our research to:
  • Discover the best ways to diagnose, treat and prevent chronic diseases.
  • Investigate lifestyle-related chronic disease, largely in Indigenous populations, to gather evidence to build positive models of health.
  • Improve outcomes for Northern Territorian women with diabetes in pregnancy, and their babies.
  • Understand the barriers Indigenous patients experience when navigating the health system and improve communication between clinicians and Indigenous patients
Your support will enable us to continue this very important work.
