Database expert needed
Save the Children works hard to protect children from harm and help them access quality education and health services. We have programs in every state in Australia reaching over 14,000 children last year.
Description of project:
We require a template for a simple database that can be used by our program staff around Australia and in the Pacific region. The database is needed to more accurately record information of beneficiaries in our programs including contact details, profile details, notes on their cases and goals of their involvement in our programs. The database would need to be quickly and easily duplicated as each program has subtle differences which would need to be recorded in each database. It needs to be easy to understand and to use.
To begin with, we would like the assistance of an expert to scope out what is needed, some guidance on what is currently freely available that can be utilised that would suit our needs, and what the next steps might be. This would require from 2-4 hours for a scoping meeting in our office in Carlton, or potentially via Skype if interstate..
Outcomes of project: Better knowledge of how to take this project forward and some practical next steps.
Eventually, we would love to have a simple database to be able to more accurately record details and outcomes from our programs. This would allow us to track the goals of the program, better analyse the data, understand our beneficiaries and report on the impact each program is having. We would be able to better and more accurately tell the story of the impact our work is having on vulnerable children and their families.
Required skills/experience: Strong database, technical skills. Ideally someone who has built online/cloud-based databases (familiar with SQL/Azure). Understands the end user – remote program staff often have intermittent internet and low level computer skills.
