Science in the City Volunteer

Are you our next Science in the City volunteer? Applications are now open for the Australian Museum's two-week premier Science Week event.

We’re on the lookout for enthusiastic volunteers to be the face of our two-week science festival, Science in the City. Sign up and celebrate all things science with us, meet like-minded people, and get an inside look into how a science festival and a museum are run. Our volunteers are the face, heart and soul of the festival, and their support is integral to the delivery of this popular program which welcomed over 7,000 students in 2018!

We are looking for volunteers to help us deliver science-focused events from the 6th to the 15th of August 2019. Ideally, you are available for a minimum of three shifts and are willing to travel between our four venues: The Australian Museum, Sydney Grammar, PCYC Woolloomooloo and the Anzac Memorial, Hyde Park.

Event Roles
On any given day you could be assisting with venues and presenters, helping out with ticketing, liaising with teachers and school groups, and communicating the wonders of science to the public during one of our community days. Working with Science in the City is a great way to gain experience in the museum, gallery and event management industries. There’s no other event like this in Australia, and no other way to get this type of firsthand experience. Eager to get involved? There are two main volunteer positions during the festival, volunteer for one, or both!

Community Day Volunteer
Assists the Science Engagement and Events team to deliver two huge community days (Little Explorers Big Bay Out and Super Science Saturday). This position helps with ticketing, presenter setup, crowd flow management, wayfinding and more.

School Volunteer
Assists with the delivery of our education weeks which take place across four venues. These events run from 8:30am to 2:30pm, Tuesday to Thursday each week of the festival.
