SharingStories Foundation
SharingStories works with Indigenous Elders, young people and communities to hold and document knowledge and language for the future, using innovative digital media technology. With Indigenous Elders dying and assimilation strategies limiting intergenerational transmission of knowledge, it it vital to ensure that the rich heritage of Indigenous culture is held for Indigenous communities and the broader community. Each language and culture holds a vast library of knowledge, a unique interpretation of what it means to be alive.

At the invitation of Indigenous Elders and communities, SharingStories applies innovative digital media technology in its work with communities to support artistic, language and cultural expression, and the intergenerational transmission of knowledge and wisdom.

SharingStories’ projects have evolved from its award-winning book series 'Sharing Our Stories' that won the 2009 Australian Awards for Excellence in Educational Publishing and Best Primary Teaching & Learning Package. 'Sharing Our Stories' was developed in collaboration with fourteen Indigenous Australian communities and includes traditional stories selected and written by the communities, illustrated by children, including audio CDs (with short films online) developed by young people, with text in both English and language. SharingStories is seeking to extend the book series and convert the 'Sharing our Stories' book series into interactive iBooks to further increase accessibility and appreciation of oral traditions.

SharingStories' four project platforms revolve around the Digital Storytelling, Multimedia Language Application, interactive iBooks and Ancestral Dreaming Track Mapping. These projects support the learning of digital media skills, artistic self-expression, cultural identity, language learning and maintenance, and the holding and sharing of songs, song cycles and stories.

SharingStories’ website www.sharingstoriesfoundation.org has more information about these projects.
