Social service agencies frequently request double prams for the families in their care with two or more small children. While we always strive to re-home pre-loved prams, we rarely receive double pram donations and stringent safety standards can also mean that not all donated prams are suitable to re-home. This means that demand always exceeds supply.
Without a double pram, mobility with two or more small children is extremely difficult, particularly for single parents who are isolated and have little support. Many of the families we help have either no pram at all or only a single pram. Having a baby in a single pram or in a sling and holding onto an active toddler on busy roads can be dangerous. The families who rely on us for support are low income and often don’t have a car, so a pram is essential in providing a means of safe transportation for their children. It also provides a way for them to engage in the community by attending a mother's group, going to the park, walking to the shops or school and attending appointments.
