OzHarvest Brisbane - Food Rescue

Good food should not go to waste! OzHarvest, in partnership with Wesley Mission Queensland, is a food rescue charity that collects excess food from cafes, delis, supermarkets and restaurants and delivers it to some 80 charities within south east Queensland who then feed those in need including:
  • children and youth at-risk who may have been abused or have nowhere else to go,
  • single parents with no support,
  • older men and women who have trouble making ends meet,
  • people who are homeless,
  • marginalised indigenous men, women and children,
  • refugees looking for a better life,
  • those who are going through drug and alcohol rehabilitation,
  • women who are escaping domestic violence, and
  • families with low incomes who need help to get by.
Re-distributing food to our charity partners assists them to more efficiently address the underlying social problems in our society and redirect funding which would otherwise be spent on food to more important preventative programs.The re-distribution of excess food also saves thousands of tonnes of food being dumped as landfill each year.
