When Sisilia was a baby, her dad died. Her grieving mother was left to care for her and her four siblings all by herself. Sisilia’s house is small and overcrowded. There is only one bed, poor ventilation, no windows and no toilet. And like most homes in rural parts of the country, there is no running water. 

While we simply turn a tap to access clean water, Sisilia must walk to collect it three times a day including before and after school. 

“When I miss school, I feel bad,” Sisilia explained. “The time I use for fetching water affects my studies, since I’d fetch water instead of going to school.” 

Your gift can help provide access to water points, hygiene kits and handwashing stations where they are urgently needed. 

The A+ Successor Project includes education about the importance of sanitation and good hygiene, empowering children like Sisilia to take a leading role in their community. Sisilia’s active participation in the project has supported her in becoming a leader in her school and wider community. 

She has joined the SWASH club, which promote hygiene, sanitation and rights awareness. “The training provided on SWASH and child rights have really helped me grow and understand my role as a young leader,”.
