What you’ll be doing
As a Literacy or Numeracy Buddy, you’ll be a positive adult role model for 1 or 2 students at a school facing a disadvantage.
This program involves:
- Exchanging 6 letters across the year
- Attending two 90-minute visits to meet your Little Buddy: one at your workplace and one at the school
- Committing 8-12 total volunteering hours over the year

Being a Big Buddy makes a huge difference to your Little Buddies! By volunteering your time, you are helping them to:
- Develop literacy/numeracy skills
- Improve their communication skills
- Grow in confidence
- Engage with adult role models
- Broaden their horizons regarding careers and education

Points to note
To volunteer as a Big Buddy, you will need to:
• Provide a Working With Children Check
• Undertake child safety training provided by EdConnect
This program runs from term 2 to term 4 (approximately April to November).
