BECOME A VOLUNTEER WITH EXTENDED FAMILIES!

Are you passionate about creating inclusive communities, fostering partnerships, and providing support to children and adults with disabilities?

If so?, we invite you to be a part of something truly special – the Extended Families
Volunteer Program!

At Extended Families, we believe that everyone deserves the chance to thrive and
be an integral part of their community. We are on a mission to empower individuals with disabilities to live life to the fullest and we need YOUR help to make it happen.

WHAT WE DO?:

Extended Families is a community-driven organisation committed to disability inclusion, partnership, and family support. We deliver services aimed at diverse communities, facilitating group activities for people from diverse and Vietnamese backgrounds, as well as creating group and 1:1 supports for people from all cultures.

We have many Volunteer Opportunities in the South Eastern Suburbs, and some in the Western Suburbs of Melbourne.

Our volunteers play a vital role in making a difference in the lives of children and adults with disabilities by supporting the delivery of these services. As a volunteer, you will help create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for everyone we support, through:

Group Volunteer:

Group Volunteers support our Group Facilitators by providing participation assistance, companionship, and mentorship to children and young people engaged in one or more of the Group Programs. Tasks include:

1. Assisting Group Facilitators by guiding participants through tailored group exercises aimed at enhancing essential life skills within a social learning framework.

2. Supporting participants in practicing key skills and engaging in community activities to promote their social inclusion, enrich their experiences, and boost their confidence in pursuing life goals.

3. Demonstrating understanding, encouragement, and empathy towards the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities, as well as their families and caregivers.

4. Assist the Group Facilitator as required to ensure events run smoothly and are safe and fun for all.

Volunteer Match Mentor (1:1 Support):

Volunteer Match Mentor (1:1 support) Volunteers work directly with children with a disability and their families in their homes and community by providing companionship and supervision and supporting the young person to feel confident and included. Responsibilities encompass:

5. Offering direct support to individuals with disabilities, both in home and community environments, with the goal of promoting their well-being, fostering social relationships, and enhancing community engagement to support people to reach their full potential.

6. Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of children and young people in your care.

7. Cultivating positive and friendly relationships with participants, their families, informal support networks, staff, and community organisations.
