Develop our school excursion program
$ 500.00
Each year, hundreds of primary school students visit Perth City Farm for a tour or workshop. We would like to extend their experience and deepen their learning by offering full-day excursions.
What it is:
A full-day excursion program for primary-aged children that blends Western ideas of sustainability with Noongar concepts for Care of Country. This completely unique offering occurs in a working urban farm which offers the opportunity for hands-on learning that excites all senses.
Children will explore the farm and participate in activities including growing and eating healthy food of many cultures, connecting to nature, caring for animals, composting and soil health, supporting native flora and fauna and conserving water. The day will be fun and vibrant with stories, singing and crafts. All of this will
be tied together with theoretical concepts of how we can live kind and sustainable lives in an age-appropriate way.
Impact of support:
Once the program is up and running we expect to host 81 primary school classes each year, impacting around 2,200 students and 250 teachers and parent helpers.
The educational impacts of this excursion will be significant for the children, their teachers and the attending parents. The excursion will be written to link into the WA state curriculum and fit in with their current sustainability framework so that it helps students with their school work. It will be developed in line with Perth City Farms' science-based education methodology which has a focus on sharing skills, inspiration and community connection to effect sustainable behaviour change.
