$260 trains one Elected Woman in India for one year to be an effective local council member.
We work towards our goal of ending hunger and poverty in India through empowering women leaders through our Elected Women Representatives program in Rajasthan. The program is focused on empowering women leaders to lift up the most vulnerable and discriminated groups, particularly young girls. India enforces 50% of all village council seats to be reserved for women, however these women are often from low socio-economic backgrounds who are often illiterate and uneducated, and therefore are not equipped with the skills, knowledge or resources to enact change.
The Hunger Project empowers these Elected Women to step into their power and create sustainable change for their communities. By doing so, this will help stop child marriage, domestic violence and gender discrimination. It will also help increase healthcare, education, social security programs and water and sanitation access. By doing so it will in turn help lift communities out of hunger and poverty.
