5k a Day in May for Asthma
Event
5k A Day In May for Asthma is an initiative to raise awareness and much-needed funds for asthma research.

During the month of May you can walk, run, ride or swim 5 kilometres every day and raise money for Asthma Australia.

You could set yourself a challenge to achieve 5 kilometres every day, or you could get a group of friends together and make it through a team effort. Whatever you want to do to achieve your 5k a Day in May, it's a great way to have fun, get active and spread the word about asthma.

5K a Day is the initiative of Newcastle business owners, Kerri-Ann Hooper and Natalie Doolan founders of project management company Carnelian Projects and Wade Hooper from Inspire Property & Finance.

They chose Asthma Australia as the beneficiary of this fundraiser because of their close personal connection to asthma.

“Given our close family and business ties, our connection to asthma through Wade and his son, who have both ended up in hospital, and our growing involvement in exercise through running, riding and swimming, we wanted to create an opportunity to raise awareness of asthma within our community and ultimately raise funds for research,” said Natalie.

An important part of the campaign is encouraging people to be active and that for the majority of people that asthma doesn’t have to hold them back.“Despite the fact that I use to have asthma symptoms when I was a child, I already do 2- 3 runs each week and wondered if it would be possible to do one every day?” recalls Wade.

It was from this simple idea that 5k a day in May was born. Not all participants are completing the challenge on their own as Natalie explains.“We have decided to join together as a team and take turns to either run or walk 5k each day in May and seek sponsorship to raise money for local Asthma Foundations.

In 2015 Genesis Fitness clubs have come on board as the national fitness partner 5k a Day in May for Asthma.
