Donation Sorting at our warehouse

WAREHOUSE VOLUNTEERING BRIEF

You may know that the Brotherhood of St Laurence’s community stores are a place where families, fashionistas and thrifty bargain hunters can purchase low-cost goods. What you may not know is that these community stores are social enterprises that raise much needed funds for the Brotherhood’s programs to prevent and alleviate poverty in Australia.

We receive thousands of generous donations each week with the bulk going to our warehouse for sorting before it can be sold at one of our 20 community stores or via our online bookstore, Brotherhood Books. Our stores have a great range – clothes, books, electrical goods, furniture, homewares and lots of other goodies; sorting is a crucial part of our operations.
There is always an opportunity for volunteers to assist with sorting at our warehouse. These sessions offer an interesting and unique experience for our supporters offering staff an opportunity to spend a day out of the office doing ‘good’ and they’re great for team-building too.
Every session includes a warehouse tour to ensure staff understand the value of their volunteering, how it fits into the bigger Brotherhood picture and, most importantly, how it improves the lives of people experiencing disadvantage.
We generally host up to 15 people in a group, splitting the team across different sorting stations.
