Volunteering at Hamodava Cafe

The Hamodava Cafe, named in tribute of the world’s very first fair trade venture pioneered by The Salvation Army – Hamodava Tea – is a welcoming community centre providing breakfast and lunch, as well as support to people from all walks of life, especially those living on the margins of society.

As well as being a place where you can get some of the best coffee in Melbourne, Hamodava Cafe’s primary purpose is about building relationships. Melbourne Project 614 offers a number of services to people including crisis support and intervention, information and practical assistance and importantly, ongoing support for people in crisis.

We currently have group volunteer shifts available in The Salvation Army Hamodava Cafe, 69 Bourke St, Melb from 8.15am-2pm.

Please click the 'volunteer' button if you would like to get involved. Please ensure you let us know a range of possible dates you'd like to volunteer

The different work areas that you will be involved in includes:
  • Waiting on tables (taking orders, clearing tables)
  • Back of house operations such as meal preparation, delivery and cleaning up (including dishes where required)
  • Food preparation in the kitchen - which not only involves preparing meals for the cafe, but also for some of the other programs that operate throughout the place on a daily basis.
