Chelsea is planning to walk the Larapinta Trail.. For the second time! This is going to be a great personal challenge.

The Larapinta Extreme Walk was founded in 2014 by a team of volunteers and in 3 years have raised approximately $300,000 for the retention of indigenous law & culture in remote communities. The walk involves a large team of 30-40 everyday people walking 223kms over 11 days to raise funds that go directly to the NPY Women's Council (www.npywc.org.au)

My Personal Journey.

2015: We built the team, set the foundations and completed our first Larapinta Extreme Walk in May 2015. I lead the team and trained every weekend leading up to the walk and felt physically unstoppable! With an initial target of $10,000 I was  so overwhelmingly proud when together we raised over $115,000 for the NPYWC! During the walk on day 9 (of 11), I suffered an injury to both of my knees and spent the next 6 months unable to walk up or down a flight of stairs.
I was able to complete the trail, but not without difficulty. Being a team leader, I had to stay strong.
2016: Hyped for the next event but restricted from training due to my knee injury, before I got a chance to even start training for the 2016 Larapinta Extreme Walk event I fell near-fatally sick with Septicaemia and ARDS. This literally nearly killed me and I couldn't participate in the walk that year (or anything else for that matter).

As I write this, 12 months ago I was being taken into emergency, after 12 months, I am still physically and mentally recovering. I was forced to strip back everything in my life and for months I focused just on the basics like eating, drinking water and sleeping. I lost all my strength and had to start again from scratch.
I had to learn how to breathe again. I had to learn how to walk again.
I went from not being able to lift my body from the hospital bed, to walking with assistance around the hospital ward, to walking to end of the house, to the end of the street, eventually to around the park… and.. 3 weeks ago I climbed the tallest mountain I've ever climbed.

2017: This May, I've decided I'm going to be involved and walk the Larapinta Trail (again). 223kms across a mountainous desert terrain, over and along a mountain ridge and all the physical challenges that come with it. I'm training to walk as much of the trail as my body can take. I don't think I can do the whole trail, but I'm going to try. When I walk, I'll be a support team leader. On ground, I'll be support crew on days when I can't walk. Support Crew involves setting up and packing down camp, heavy lifting, early mornings and late nights, exhausting days.
This cause means so much to me.
I want to personally raise $2000 for the NPY Women's Council so that the funds can go towards the retention of indigenous law & culture, the preservation of tradition, the care for the people living within remote indigenous communities.

From the very beginning, I was one of the key members of the Larapinta Extreme Walk. I still spend my spare time volunteering for the organisation and care greatly for its success as I have seen with my own eyes the value our donations bring to these women and the impacts the event itself has on all participants. Please appreciate how much this means to me, and the physical, mental and emotional challenges I have faced to get here.

Until now, I haven't asked for donations because I wasn't sure if I could go on the trail and be involved. But here I am! I'd love your support or sponsorship xx

Thank you,
Chelsea xx
